I’m a husband, a father, and a part-time musician. I’m a bass player, a believer, and a sarcastic optimist. My real estate journey started in Greensboro, NC in 1998 when, on a whim, I took classes to become a real estate appraiser. Conceived mainly as an outlet to earn a few extra bucks, those appraisal classes turned into a 26-year career. I’ve now appraised well over 15,000 houses of all shapes, sizes, and price points. I learned from each appraisal assignment; gaining an in-depth understanding of the market and a unique perspective on how value works.
As much as a real estate nerd that I had transformed into, and as rewarding as appraisal was in many areas, I found myself missing something. There was a social connection in helping people that the data-driven world of appraisal just could not provide. So, in 2013 I decided to “join the dark side,” if you will, and obtained my real estate broker’s license. I served the first eight years of my broker career at the regional firm Fonville Morisey, helping anchor a Triangle Business Journal Top 20 team. After a couple of other great firm experiences, in 2023 I brought my business and Sumner Realty and Appraisal brand to Real Broker, a virtual firm expanding nationwide. Real grants me the opportunity to run my business and brand myself as an independent and individual real estate consultant.
I am passionate about being a teacher for those unfamiliar with an unnecessarily frightening real estate experience. I strive to make the homebuying process fun and rewarding for those who entrust me to guide them on their homebuying or home-selling journey. I am grateful for nearly three decades of appraisal experience to assist in that journey, and strive to add a few laughs and smiles to every transaction and home process.
I enjoy playing music, and in my spare time, you might find me onstage at a local club playing with my unapologetically cheesy ‘80s tribute; Suicide Blonde. I’m also a big fan of the Carolina Hurricanes and my alma mater, the East Carolina Pirates (Arrrrghhh).
Thanks for stopping by and spending a little time getting to know me. I hope to one day have the opportunity to return the favor.
I’d love the chance to help you find your way…Home.
There are a lot of agents out there, but none quite like me. It’s not just my experience—it’s how I'll make the whole process about you. Easy, clear, and with results you’ll love.
